WELCOME TO ABERDEEN TAEKWON-DO
ABOUT TAEKWONDO
ABOUT AUTKD
The Aberdeen University Taekwon-Do Club was founded by Mr Calum Murdo Kennedy I in 1999 and was formally recognised by the Aberdeen University Sports Union in December 1999. When Mr Kennedy had to leave Aberdeen in 2003, Mr Tom Slowey IV kindly agreed to take over. In January 2004, Mr Steve Lamb II became our instructor until the club was handed over to Mr Dan Scheer III (then 2nd Kup) in September 2004.
In January 2005 our club decided to leave the British Isles Taekwon-Do Federation (BITF) and joined the Independent Taekwon-Do Schools (ITS) under Master Murdoch VII, based in Aberdeen. In September 2009 Mr Scheer III opened his own school and left the University Club. At this point, the club was passed on to Mr Thierry Mamer II. When Mr Mamer left Aberdeen in 2010, Mr Kris Carbis II took over the club. In 2011 Mr Carbis left Aberdeen and Mr Hallur Simonsen I and Mr Douglas Dutton I decided to teach on a split basis. Mr Ranald Gibson I took over teaching for the 2012/2013 year. In the 2013 session Mr Joel Parkinson II took over teaching and stayed with the club until 2016. Afterwards, Ms Iris Krammer II split the teaching with Ms Lucy Truong III for a year and Ms Krammer went on to be the club's current instructor.
Taekwon-Do (ITF) is a Korean military martial art of self-defence founded by General Choi Hong Chi. At AUTKD, we have active training and social lifestyle as well as committed instructors with varied teaching styles to ensure the best progress for you!
In Taekwon-Do, you will learn basic techniques in self-defence, as well as how to apply them through patterns, sparring and breaking! You will also be part of a close-knit team, and have opportunities to participate in competitions to show off your new skills.
